NRC ROADSHOW

EXCELLENT BUSINESS IDEA

DHL TRADE FAIRS & EVENTS moves NCR‘s road shows

Training service engineers and keeping them up to date with the latest technology and developments has always been a top priority for NCR, the world’s leading manufacturer of ATMs and other self service solutions. Training is an essential part in NCR’s philosophy to give their customers the best possible service and to implement change quickly and proactively.

Simple idea with great impact

Engineers have until now been required to travel to one of NCR’s Centres of Excellence for training and skills development. However, flying the engineers to these locations is a costly operation and more critically increases the time that the engineer is unavailable to the field. Geoff Penton, CS University EMEA Learning Manager of NCR Corporation, therefore came up with a new concept. Like many good ideas the concept was simple and straightforward: Geoff wanted to host the training sessions in-country and believed that a partner who could provide warehouse facilities as a training environment could provide a low cost solution which importantly brought the training to the area that their field engineers operated, thereby increasing engineer’s overall availability – thus the ‘Training Road Show’ was born.

Professional Partner

With his concept Geoff approached Tony Perkins, GCS Regional Customer Manager, responsible for NCR. Tony took on the challenge and involved DHL Trade Fairs & Events to find the warehouses and to work out the operational requirements. The UK team of DHL Trade Fairs & Events managed to find six suitable warehouse locations in the areas requested by NCR, coordinated the collection of the ATMs in Budapest, delivered all the equipment to the first location in Luton (East of England) and the following locations.

After the six events, Geoff and the engineers were very happy with the way the concept has worked out and with the cooperation with DHL Trade Fairs & Events. As a next step NCR are evaluating the rollout of the concept within Mainland Europe.

PHILIPS SIMPLICITY EVENT RED SQUARE 2008

100% effort and strong nerves ensured success

In mid-October 2008, Philips hosted its ‘Simplicity Event’ right at the centre of Red Square in Moscow. This important brand event presented new health and wellness products to the media and shareholders. DHL Trade Fairs & Events was responsible for the transport to the location, return transport and onsite organization.

Despite some stumbling blocks the event could take place in time – thanks to the more than 100% effort of all the people involved.

Voluminous transport assignment

  • 34 full load trucks with material from the tent builder in the Netherlands, for the assembly of 7,000 sq. m. of event premises
  • 5 trucks with standbuilding equipment, NL
  • 1 truck fully loaded with Philips products from all over the world and delivered from Eindhoven to Moscow
  • 25 swap body containers from several booth builders and event organizers from Germany, e.g. UWI Events

Hurdle: Customs Management

In order to guarantee efficient customs clearance it’s necessary to create carnets (Carnet ATA) for fair and exhibition goods, to check the customs documents and to deliver correct translations. For some customers it wasn’t possible to have the documents examined by the Russian authorities because the papers arrived just one day before loading. However, the DHL Trade Fairs & Events team managed to take all hurdles and arranged the customs clearance.

DHL Freight employees solved all problems with great expertise

  • Sergey Skharov from the Russian DHL Trade Fairs & Events office traveled to the border and assisted during document translations and customs clearance.
  • Some delayed goods were delivered later by air freight; in one day DHL Trade Fairs & Events organized what normally takes four days.
  • The last truck arrived just one day before the event. Everything was ready for the beginning of the event.
